About the group

SpareBank 1 SR-Bank has more than 350,000 individuals and companies as
customers. The bank has a presence with 34 branches from Bergen in the west to Oslo in the east. Our competitive advantage is that we are closer to people and businesses than other major banks.

We are a proactive financial group with national distribution. As Norway’s second largest Norwegian-owned bank, the group provides financial muscle for growth, value creation, and profitability for customers, society, and our owners.

In 2018, we went from being a regional bank to a bank for the whole of Southern Norway, with Greater Oslo as one of our focus areas. In early 2018 we established a branch in Oslo for larger corporate and retail customers.

The headquarters are in Stavanger, and the group has, including subsidiaries, more than 1500 employees.

SpareBank 1 SR-Bank converted from a savings bank to a public limited company (’limited liability savings bank’) with effect from 1 January 2012. The Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank foundation was established at the same time. The purpose of the foundation is to manage the shares received upon its formation and to exercise and maintain a substantial, long-term and stable ownership interest in SpareBank 1 SR-Bank ASA.

The foundation can distribute its surplus and, in line with savings bank traditions, donates to publicly beneficial projects in Rogaland, Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder, and Hordaland. Since the establishment of Egersund Sparebank in 1839, one of our key purposes has been to be a committed, responsible social actor. This has formed part of our basic philosophy ever since.

In March 2010 the United States passed on Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) to prevent US tax evasion. The purpose of FATCA is achieved by requiring foreign financial institutions to report to the US tax authorities (IRS) regarding customer relationships where the customer directly or indirectly is a resident in the US. In April 2013 Norway signed an intergovernmental agreement with the US (IGA model I) in which Norwegian public authorities undertake an obligation to ensure the collection of data from Norwegian financial institutions and then report these to the USA.

SpareBank 1 SR-Bank ASA is in this regard allocated GIIN number (Global Identification Number) J9EXAQ.00000.LE.578.
