Funding strategy
SpareBank 1 SMN issues senior debt, subordinated debt and hybrid capital. It does so both by means of public issues and private placings. The bank intends to be in a position to survive for at least 12 months of normal operation with moderate growth without access to external financing from the capital market.
Borrowing programmes and prospectuses
SpareBank 1 SMN, SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge and SpareBank 1 Østlandet are collaborating in the preparation of an international borrowing programme Euro Medium Term Note Programme (EMTN). This simplifies the banks’ funding in international markets since standardised agreements are used when issuing bonds in foreign currency.
A borrowing agreement sets out the issuer’s obligations in connection with a new bond issue. It regulates the terms of the issue along with the rights and obligations of both issuer and investors. The borrowing agreement is available from Norsk Tillitsmann, an independent trustee scheme, or from the issuer.
SpareBank 1 SMN has developed a Green Bond Framework with eligible categories including green residential and commercial buildings, clean transportation, renewable energy, environmentally sustainable management of living natural resources and land use, and companies with selected sustainability certifications on their products, production technologies and/or processes. SpareBank 1 Boligkreditt is a company wholly-owned by the banks participating in the SpareBank 1 Alliance, which issues covered bonds and senior debt.
